So many people have been exploring coral reefs in the Caribbean for so long, that everyone thought there was nothing new to discover there. But Smithsonian scientist Carole Baldwin proved them wrong when she discovered not one, but seven new species of fish hiding right in plain sight.

The fish pictured above is just one of the newly discovered species of blenny she found. It’s a tiny thing, around 2 cm in length with a beautiful color pattern that includes iridescence on the fins. Dr.Baldwinthinks there could be many more undiscovered species in those well studied waters.

This blenny and its six cousins just go to show how much we still don’t know about what lives in the oceans.
