Most works of fiction contain some grain of truth. Some contain a lot of truth. The categories on the left tackle some of the topics and themes in the book. Spend a little time looking around, and you’ll learn which parts of the book are completely true, which are false, and which are a little bit of both.

When writing Restricted Waters, Kara relied on her experiences with many of the subjects in the book–things like scuba diving, marine life and invasive species. In some cases, she needed to research topics to make sure she stayed as true to the science as possible. But often, she bent the truth, using bits of reality and bits of imagination to tell a story.
